candidate vice president at large.
My name is Jennifer Nixon. I have been an Attorney Advisor and NTEU Member since 2011, and I have been a proud NTEU Steward since 2020. I have had the privilege to have been mentored by members of the current Executive Board along with Donald Nagel and Jessica Murphy, all of whom have provided me with a wealth of knowledge that I pass on to every member who I have the honor to work with.
Many of you already know me, as I have been in the trenches with you – applying for reasonable accommodations or transfers, monitoring your office meetings, filing grievances, and answering your Intake questions. For those who don’t know me, I would like to tell you a little more about myself. As a wife, mother, and Attorney Advisor of almost 15 years, I know firsthand the impact that decisions made by the Agency and NTEU have on our families and our ability to do our jobs effectively and happily. I also know the fear and anxiety that come with not knowing what’s going on.
On the ground, I Chair the Transfer Committee and have assisted countless employees in securing relocation to a new office. I also serve on the Reasonable Accommodations (RA) Team, where I help employees navigate the complicated process of applying for and securing an RA. I am incredibly proud to be a member of the Intake Team, where I answer individual questions and help provide peace of mind during these unprecedented and sometimes confusing times.
Behind the scenes, I gratefully serve on the Legislative Committee, which allows me to visit members of Congress every year to share our stories and help further NTEU’s agenda on Capitol Hill. I am chairing and building a Grassroots Committee to help members get involved in sharing our message with our elected officials. I am also currently on a cadre working directly with the Agency to develop much-needed training for management on the proper use and application of the Auxiliary Workload Tool (AWT).
With this experience, I am in a unique position to combine my member-facing boots on the ground experience and my ability to see the bigger picture through my behind the scenes duties. This dual role visibility makes me the best candidate for the position of Vice President at Large. I believe in protecting and expanding employees’ rights, including telework, flexible work schedules, proper administration of RAs, fair pay, and retirement benefits, to ensure that we have the work-life balance that we – and our families – deserve.
As VP at Large, my number one goal will be to act as a liaison between the Executive Board and the Regional Vice Presidents – the real eyes and ears on the ground on a local level. With the support of Donald Nagel, Jessica Murphy, Kim Ryan, and Tyler Bellin, I will ensure that RVPs are “in the know” about Agency policy changes, NTEU’s grassroots efforts, contract negotiations, technology implementation, and everything else employees are up at night, wondering and worrying about, so that the RVPs can connect with you – our most valuable and important asset – and keep you informed. I will meet regularly with RVPs to hear about issues facing employees in any individual region or office so that the Executive Board can address your concerns.
I would greatly appreciate your vote for the position of Vice President at Large. The Nagel, Murphy, Nixon, Ryan, and Bellin Team will work together to listen to you, advocate for you, negotiate for you, and fight for you. I recognize that every member’s voice matters. With that in mind, I will ensure that the Executive Board has your best interests in mind.
